D. J. Marcus is a trial attorney with years of experience in the courtroom. He has built a portfolio of trial victories in complex commercial litigation and real estate disputes. Able to guide clients through mediation to obtain favorable settlements, D. J. is also ready to take cases all the way to verdict. He appears in districts across the state of Colorado and the Colorado Court of Appeals.

He is Colorado’s expert on The Hague Convention on Service Abroad and the Colorado Foreign-Country Money Judgments Recognition Act, litigating and successfully domesticating judgments from Hong Kong, South Korea, and other foreign countries.  D. J.  has tried cases involving Colorado’s Common Interest Ownership Act (CCIOA) and the Uniform Enforcement of Foreign Judgments Act.  He helps businesses protect trade secrets and competitive advantage through enforcement of non-disclosure, non-solicitation, and non-compete agreements and defends employees from overzealous assertions of the same.  D. J. resolves commercial and residential landlord/tenant disputes and conflicts arising out of the purchase and sale of commercial and residential real property. He also aids in corporate structuring, helping clients avoid or minimize litigation risk while setting up LLCs, partnerships, or small, closely-held corporations, and assists clients in resolving tax controversies on both state and federal levels.

D. J. recognizes that obtaining a judgment is only half the battle, so he has developed a talent for collecting on the judgments he wins for his clients. He has successfully asserted fraudulent transfer claims against judgment debtors hoping to hide assets and has an extensive toolbox to make his clients whole after prevailing at trial.

D. J. received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Anthropology from The Colorado College and his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. At DU, he was Vice President of the Student Bar Association and a member of the Student Trial Lawyers Association. D. J. sits on the Colorado Lawyers Committee’s Young Lawyer’s Division Strategic Planning Committee and volunteers at Colorado Lawyers Committee Legal Nights. He also coaches the mock trial team at Evergreen High School, leading the team to the state tournament two out of the last three years. In addition to his legal practice, D. J. is the founder and Gear Admiral at Engearment.com. He lives in Evergreen with his wife and son.
